I am 3 months post op from open rhinoplasty where i had nasal tip refined and dorsal hump removed. Looking at my profile there is a sharp point at the tip. Also my nostrils are retracted and columella appears low. Will the point and other two issues resolve over time or not? I had a steroid shot a month ago for the swelling.
Answer: Rhinoplasty revision There are two thing I would correct with your nose which are pretty simple to correct. Your bridge was not lowered enough at and above the tip, therefore your tip doesn’t have good definition and sticks out too far. Also you have a hanging columella which can also be corrected by removal of excess cartilage from the lower end of the septum. Common problems I see after rhinoplasty each straightforward to correct.

Answer: 3 Months During a rhinoplasty, the skin and soft tissues are often completely separated from the underlying bone and cartilage framework. The framework is modified and the skin is laid back down. After a rhinoplasty the nose swells from the trauma of surgery and the tissues become edematous. This makes the normally pliable skin firm and causes the nose to take on a “weird” appearance in the first few weeks after surgery. The nose continues to settle over the next few months as the edema finally escapes and the soft tissues adapt to their new underlying framework. It will take 6 months to a year to see a final result. Close follow-up with the surgeon is essential. Assuming there is no infection, patients should allow at least 6 months for the swelling to resolve and the tissues to soften before contemplating any changes. At that point, a detailed exam and discussion will help delineate the best treatment option.

Answer: Pointy tip after rhinoplasty? Your nose has the appearance of polybeak with a hanging columella. It is too soon however to say whether revision will be necessary to correct this. Wait another five months and if this has not greatly improved see a revision rhinoplasty specialist. There are several causes for this based on my 35 year experience. It could be the cartilage left too high or The tip left too low along with the hanging columella. i would not do any more steroid injections.

Answer: There is a sharp point at tip after rhinoplasty. Any suggestions? Rather than a sharp point, you still have some residual swelling, perhaps slight excess tissue of the pre-tip area. Do NOT use steroids. Since you are 3 months post-op, try night taping with some pressure on the area just above the tip. It might have been helpful to do this sooner, but try this for several months. If, after 9 to 12 months, you are still not happy, a very small amount of tissue excision could be performed in this area.
