Is it normal 7 weeks post BA that other breast aches? (Photo)

Question

I am 7 weeks post BA with 385cc HP silicone implants. My left breast aches a little all the time but the right one doesn't. The Dr did tell me he had to do a little more work for the left breast because of asymmetry prior to surgery. I am just worried if this is normal?

Great question!  Yes often times one breast is more sore than the other and takes longer to either "drop" or feel normal, especially if there was more work done on one breast.  7 weeks is still considered early in the healing process so I would wait a few more months and see if the ashiness gets better.  Continue routine followups with your surgeon.Best of luck and hope this information helps!

Emmi87:  Yes, it is completely normal for one side to have more discomfort than the other.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason such as right/left handed, which side you may sleep on, etc. This issue pops up at least several times on every patient day I have.  From the picture you included things look perfectly fine and I think you are on track to have an excellent result.Best of luck to you!G. Hello emmi87.I appreciate your question very much. It is normal to have occasional aches and pains after breast surgery. The final result with breast implants occurs at 1 year and right now you're only 7 weeks after surgery or about 14% of the healing time has passed. As you continue to drop and fluff and the tissues stretch occasional aches can be expected. I think you should speak to your plastic surgeon, have an examination, and ask if using acetominophen or other mild pain reliever is appropriate.Good luck, Dr. ALDO

You may have heard others refer to the phrase that the breasts are "sisters not twins".  This references that they often heal at different rates.  Especially if your surgeon confirmed that one side required a bit more from a surgical standpoint, it could be expected that one breast would be more sore than the other.  I encourage you to continue to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
