I’m scheduled to have breast augmentation later in February. My surgeon is placing the implants under the muscle. I am deciding between 440 and 470 cc implants. My only concern is that my breasts will be really far apart and I’ll be left with the dreaded “refund gap”. Will larger implants reduce my risk of this happening?
Answer: Are my breasts too wide set to achieve cleavage? Hello and thank you for posting your photos. Without an in person examination and maybe even "wish pics", it's hard to understand what you are looking for.... and hard to say with certainty if the amount of cleavage will be enough for what you want to achieve. I still think you are going to get a decent amount of cleavage. Your breasts footprints are not that wide apart. Plus, the implant size seems appropriate for a good amount of cleavage. I would just recommend placing round implants because High and Extra High Projection Implants are usually not as wide. Best of luck!Dr. Miguel Mota

Answer: Are my breasts too wide set to achieve cleavage? (Photo) You have very little actual breast gland now with a fairly wide cleavage. Implants will certainly narrow your cleavage, but it may be wider than you like. However, I think you will be happy with them because it will still look good. The submuscular position would be best for your implants. The dissection will have to cut enough of the pectoralis muscle to allow the implant to move medially, and the implants must have of a low enough profile to cover your chest properly. Your PS will measure your breast width and determine this in relation to the size implants you want.Look at photos of the PS's patients you choose, and discuss your concerns with him/her.Thank you for your question, and photos, and best wishes.

Answer: Cleavage The implants will settle behind the nipple area and from the implant volume you are considering, you should be able to have some cleavage. If it will be enough to meet your goals requires more information. I encourage you to discuss your concerns and goals with your surgeon so that you can feel comfortable and confident as you proceed with surgery.

Answer: Chest Anatomy Thank you for your question- it's one that many patients have. The ultimate results from your surgery depend on more than just the implant chosen. Your anatomy can have a big influence as well, specifically how close to the middle of your chest the fibers of your chest muscles insert. If your implant is placed under the muscle, your surgeon will likely place it as far to the middle as possible without disrupting the origin of the muscle on your breast bone. If these fibers are released in the middle, you risk having a synmastia, or "uni-boob". Clarifying your expectations with your surgeon with pre and post surgical photos can put your mind at ease.
