Thank you for your question vix2016. I understand your concern. An IPL photofacial is an outstanding treatment for facial rejuvenation. It works by using bright light to target and destroy pigment and redness in the skin. It is difficult to make an assessment without a formal exam in the office where I can directly view the skin. However, I hope the information provided here is useful.Certain medications increase a person's sensitivity to light. These are called photosensitisers. If exposed to sunlight or other forms of light such as intense pulsed light (IPL) a person may develop a rash, tan, sunburn, itching, swelling, peeling, or other unwanted response. It can also increase the risk of skin cancer, cause allergic reactions, and lead to premature aging of the skin in the form of wrinkles, discolorations, and redness and broken capillaries. Zoloft (sertraline) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. This medication is not known to cause photosensitivity. However, other antidepressants such as tricyclic antidepressants are known to cause photosensitivity. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!
