It's been 1 week since I had juvederm injected under my eyes. I was extremely swollen afterward and I massaged and iced the areas as instructed. I now look okay with a lot of makeup but still feel I have a large raised area with a smudge of blue underneath. Should I be concerned or wait a few more weeks? The pictures are 1 day post procedure and then 1 week post. Thank you!
Answer: Too Much Filler in Tear Troughs? Hello and thanks for your question. Swelling is very common with Juvederm injections in the tear trough area. This can last up to two weeks. The bluish tint that you are describing could be the tyndall effect which occurs when the product is placed too superficially. You should schedule a follow-up appointment with your injector around 2 weeks after your treatment for an evaluation. Of note, you have significant volume loss in your cheeks and would benefit from a cheek filler such as Voluma. This will also help improve the appearance of your tear troughs. Best of luck to you.

Answer: Filler for tear trough requires patience Filling the tear troughs takes real art and skill, and the area is more to more bruising and swelling of greater amount and duration than other areas. I would wait 2 weeks before deciding if too much filler was put in (in vast majority of cases the right amount was put in if performed by a trained & experienced dermatologist or plastic surgeon). For now, manage the swelling with ice packs, sleeping on back and on extra pillow, and consider an antihistamine. It should settle very nicely, although never fast enough, and give you a very long lasting result of 1-2 years.

Answer: Too much filler in tear troughs Swelling occurs commonly after Juvederm injections and can last up to 2 weeks. The bluish hue is probably due the Tyndall effect, which can happen if the Juvederm is injected too superficially. I would recommend following up with your doctor 2 weeks after the injection. If there is still an abnormal appearance, part of the filler may be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

Answer: Too much filler or too early to know Juvederm causes a great deal of swelling upon injection because it pulls water to itself right away. Also, if injected too superficially it can cause the Tyndall effect, which is a bluish translucent discoloration seen through the skin. For these reasons it's not often used in thin-skinned areas like under the eyes. I would recommend stopping massaging and icing, those aren't helping at this point. Wait about 2 weeks after the initial injection and see your injector for a follow-up. At that point if the filler doesn't look like you wanted, some or all of it can start being removed with hyaluronidase.
