Answer: Swelling in Lips is Common After Juvederm Thanks for your question and the photos. Whenever a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler is injected into the lips (or any area) there can be swelling in the area as these products are absorbed by water that help expand the tissue that they are injected into. Swelling in the lips after HA injections are normal, and the different HA fillers actually swell differently based on their own properties. Juvederm swells more that Restylane and Belotero, which is why many choose these over Juvederm when injecting into the lips – although Juvederm in the lips is just fine. There is a new Restylane, Restylane Silk, now FDA approved for the areas around the mouth and the lips – this may become a common HA here as we all use the product more. Your provider should have given you post-injection instructions and if not, you need to follow-up with them. Ice can help and you should be icing the area often. It will go down over the next several days so don’t be too concerned. If it persists, go back to your provider to check on things. These injections should only be done in the offices of board-certified dermatologists or plastic surgeons.

Answer: Swelling after Juvederm in Lips will go down in a few days. When lips are injected with Juvederm, there is typical swelling because of the water absorption by the filler (hydrophilic effect) as well as the trauma of the injection. Sleeping upright helps the swelling. Ice may or may not help. The size of the lips immediately after the procedure are closer to the long term result and they maybe even a bit smaller than that.
