Restylane undereye filler injection and pain around eye afterward. What could be causing this? Could there be internal bruising?

I had an Restylane filler injection in the under-eye area for both eyes the past Wed. and have been having pain in the right eye area. I did not have any bruising except for a little puffiness the day after. Now from the outside I can't tell any problem except that when I blink, the muscles/skin around the right eye hurts (esp. around the outer corner and the lower eyelid). I had a total of 1ml injection and I'm fine otherwise. What could be causing this? Could there be internal bruising! Thanks!

Swelling and bruising are common side effects after under eye injections and can last approx. 2 weeks. If the pain gets worse and is persistent I recommend scheduling a follow up with your injector for an accurate assessment. All the Best.

Pain following filler injection around the eyes in not typical, but it does happen from time to time.  Usually the discomfort may be noticed after the first day or two and subside over the course of 3 or so days.  It is typiclally due to the needle trauma to underlying tissues which is usually minor.  If the pain is worsening you should visit with your injector, but if it is stable or improving you should not have anything to worry about.

It is common to feel some discomfort after restyane.  The injection can case deep bruising and trauma to the surrounding tissues.  The pain should subside.

You probably have a small bruise under the filler, as well as some swelling from te filler taking in fluid. It should subside soon. If it's not better within 7-10 days I would followup with your physician.

It's normal to experience some discomfort for the first couple of days. . But if you are still experiencing discomfort I would advise you to see your doctor who performed your injections for an evaluation.

One of the reasons I prefer a cannula technique is because it reduces the likelihood of getting bruises in tissue under the skin and tissue swelling from the inflammation that ensues. Having said that, make sure you go back and see the physician who injected Restylane for guidance.

Any pain after Restylane should be immediately discussed with your surgeon as this is not a common result from Restylane injection.

Most likely, there is a bruise deeper in the tissues which isn't visible.  It getting worse with blinking/movement makes this very likely.  If it doesn't get better in a week, go to your doctor. Pain around the injection site can be a normal finding after Restylane (or any other filler).  Not only is there a risk of some bruising (superficial and deep), but occasionally a small superficial nerve is irritated during the injections.  If you have any decreased vision or if this worsens, please return to your injector immediately for evaluation.  If this is simply a deeper bruise or nerve irritation it should resolve in the next 1-2 weeks.

If you have pain after undereye Restylane injection you most likely have a deep internal bruise.  This may come to the surface in the next few days or it will slowly go away over the next few days.  Try some ice and tylenol and be assured this should pass.  Feel better.
