My scars are pretty flat but they are very dark red. I am hoping this will fade, but I'm concerned and having trouble finding info on what my scars should look like at this stage. I am almost exactly 3 months post-op. Are my scars normal? I've never had any surgery before so I don't know how well I scar or heal. There were no external stitches.

Answer: Breast Augmentation Scars
At this point in the game, your scars look reasonable. Over time your scars will fade. It takes about one year for the scars to mature.

Answer: Breast augmentation scars
Other than being a bit longer than "usual," your scars are similar to many patients' scars at this point in your recoveries. Scar pad usage would be my present recommendation, as well as continued ultraviolet avoidance, and gentle (5 minutes daily) Vitamin E oil massage of your scars.
Scar maturation takes an average of 7 months (according to many healing studies); a bell-shaped curve extends on either side of this "average" length of time, so it could take up to a year or more, and even longer if you have hypertrophic scarring tendencies. This does not appear to be the case by looking at your photographs, so you should end up with flat, pale scars that are minimally visible. Be patient, and ask your surgeon for more advice if this bothers you! Best wishes! Dr. Tholen
