Is this swelling normal after hyaluronic injection? (Photo)

Question

Hello, had Hyaluronic injection today. A bit convened as my right eye is quite swollen. Any recommendations to help with the swelling? Called the doc office and they said it is normal but it feels really swollen. Does ice help? I have been using Arnica but it's not doing much. Thank you in advance.

Hi @Uffa! Bruising and swelling are both common after dermal fillers. This can take up to two weeks to subside. You can sleep elevated and apply ice. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

Hi Uffa.  When one of our patient's experience this, we have a formula to get the swelling down in approximately 48 hours.  1. Antihistamine like Benadryl.2. Motrin3. Gentle icing.This usually does the trick.

Swelling can last up to two weeks.  I suggest icing, head elevation, arnika forte, and patience.  If you have pain or skin color change you should see your physician immediately.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Some degree of swelling is to be expected after hyaluronic acid injections. The degree of swelling will vary based on the area treated, injection technique, and skill of the injector. A cold compress can be used for the first 24-48 hours to help. Usually the swelling resolves, but can take up to 2 weeks to do so. Make sure you schedule a follow up visit with your injector for an evaluation.

Swelling is completely normal after injections. Some patients experience more swelling than others It will likely resolve in 2 days but may take 2weeks.  Antihistamines such as allegra can help.  Ice is helpful.  Head elevation while sleeping helps too.

Yes, swelling can happened after any injection.  Ice/Arnica/head elevation will help.  It will go away, but may take  time.
