Is the incision made from a Fat Transfer a permanent scar?

I am looking to get a fat transfer, and I know an incision will be made on my abdomen / love handles. Will this incision be a permanent scar? I am a bodybuilder and I do not want any signs of "imperfection" that are visible on my body. Thank you for your response.

Thank you for your question. The incision required for harvesting fat is typically less than 5mm and is routinely placed in either skin folds (if harvesting from the lateral thigh or medial thigh) or below the pubic hairline anteriorly (if harvesting from the lower abdomen). As long as the incision is closed with good technique by your surgeon, these incisions are barely ever perceptible.

All scars are permanent, however the scars from fat transfer are usually fairly small (5mm or less) and can be well camouflaged. Something simple to remember: all scars are permanent and visible. You do not make new skin when the skin is injured you make only scar tissue which is a different color and consistency than skin. The best that can be done, since you need the incisions to access the areas for treatment, is to camouflage them as best as possible. You can do this by placing the scars in natural skin creases where they can blend in a bit more than on a flat area of skin. You can wear a pair of your competition garments on the day of surgery so your surgeon can try to place the incisions (scars) in an area that would be covered by the garment.during competition.Best of luck.
