What is the best way to find a great injector in a new area?

This is a great question as it can be difficult and frustrating finding a new injector. I would make sure that you choose a physician injector. When evaluating cosmetic practices make sure you ask who performs the actual injections. At a lot of offices the physicians tend to delegate their injections to nurses and physician assistants. Ask to view before and after pictures of their actual clients. Take online reviews with a grain of salt. Though some reviews can be helpful there are a lot of places out there that are paying for positive reviews. If you don't feel comfortable with a specific provider then don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Hope this helps. Good luck!

RealSelf is a great place to find a good injector. Study the injector's reviews, before/after photos, treatment videos, and answers to patient questions. Galderma and Allergan also have "Find A Provider" tools on their websites. I also find that you can get to know your injector through social media, particularly Instagram. 

What a great question.  I would recommend that you do your research online and if you do hear about them via word of mouth make sure that he/she has appropriate training.  With many of the states now coming out with requirements for dermal filler injectors to have the number of untrained/supervised injectors is dramatically decreasing.  I recently was made aware of an esthetician that called herself a "Expert Esthetic Injector" that was injecting out of her house.  Please do your research.

Allergan for the juvederm family of fillers and Galderma for the restylane family of fillers have excellent physician locators on their websites.

It is important that you locate a Dr that is board certified. You can look at the american academy of facial plastic surgery website or the american academy of dermatologic surgery and find a board certified physician in your area. I would make certain you will consul direct,y with the physician, and that the Dr does the injections and not an Astetician, assistant, or nurse. At your consultation, it is important that you see some before and after photos and that the physician understands your concerns and describes a treatment plan to accomplish your goals.

Word of mouth is a great way. Ask friends, your hair dresser, etc or anyone who has had Botox that you think looks good. Check out their website and read reviews, then go for a consult. I don’t recommend using a groupon or other similar sale to find the cheapest Botox around.

That is a great question.  I would first make sure the person is a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon.  I would look at their website, where they trained, before and after photos and patient reviews.  Your previous doctor may know a colleague in your area, as I try to line this up for any of my patients who are relocating.
