Breast lift & implant exchange. 6 wks post op. My scars where looking great right up to about 2 weeks ago. One of the scars was barely visible. Now they are all really red. I started using BioCorneum (recommended by my surgeon). During my first breast lift/aug surgery I did develop keloids. I'm afraid that the redness in my scars now could be keloids in the making... Unfortunately my surgeon is not very informative when I ask him questions so your answers really help! Thankyou.
Answer: My scars look worse six weeks after surgery The simple answer is yes this is quite normal. Scars mature overtime and typically look the most inflamed and angry at about six weeks. They can take many months to a year, sometimes even up to two years to fully mature. An options you may consider is to use topical silicone gel sheets.

Answer: Breast lift with implants exchange post op, some advices: Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. With only 6 weeks is too early to talk about final results. The healing process depends in each patient. In my practice, after performing a breast lift with implants exchange I recommend to my patients to limit the movement of the arms for two weeks. After that, you can move your arms taking care and always with common sense. In this regard, it's not advisable to carry heavy weights to prevent the implant out of position, and allow the formation of the physiological capsule around the implant, also to avoid pain and breast swelling.Respectfully,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-

Answer: Scar maturation Scars usually get more pink or red as wounds heal. Small blood vessels grow into the scar and make them red. The blood supply brings in cells and nutrients that allow mature collagen and a softer scar to develop. Some patients form worse scars and should be evaluated more frequently for scar treatment. I usually recommend no sun, silicone scar products and massage. Hypertrophic scars can sometimes be improved with early intervention using laser therapy or steroid injectiond. Keloids are worse, can be difficult to treat and should be followed closely - sometimes with steroid or chemotherapy injection. Breast keloids patients are usually not candidates for radiation therapy. See you ABPS plastic surgeon for guidance

Answer: Is it normal that my breast lift scars look worst 6 weeks post op than they did right after surgery? I appreciate your question. Yes this is normal as scars go through different stages of healing. Discuss with your plastic surgeon different treatment options available and see what he she prefers for you Some examples are silicone gel sheeting, cordran tape, biocorneum. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative breast surgery. Best of luck! Answer: Is it normal that my breast lift scars look worst 6 weeks post op than they did right after surgery? Yes, it is quite normal for scars to look worse, before they look better. The use of silicone gel to sheeting may be very helpful; I especially like the use of silicone sheeting for patients who have a place previous history of abnormal scarring. Discuss its use with your plastic surgeon. Best wishes.
