Should I get 285cc or 305cc breast implants? (Photos)

Question

I have an appointment scheduled to get a BA but I'm torn between getting 285cc or 305cc. I am 5'2 102 lbs and I don't want a big bust look but I'm worried that if I choose 285 they'll be too small and if I choose 305 they're gonna be too big. I know most doctors say to choose the bigger but I don't know if it's going to look good on me as I have a small figure.

Essentially there is NO difference between the 2- literally 4 teaspoons- so go with the bigger one because otherwise psychologically you will always second guess yourself!

Breast implants are sized according to their volume in cubic centimeters (cc).

How do you know what size implant to choose? Looking at pictures and talking to friends who had a breast augmentation might help.

Off course the volume will depend on the shape and size of your actual breasts, your frame and the size you want to achieve.

Our plastic surgeon will advise you thoroughly. Bringing pictures of a desired restult to be shown to our surgeon, might be very helpful.

My patients prefer to try on implant sizers under garments they typically wear (workout tops, bikini, tight sweater, low cut dress) to determine if they fit as expected and help allay some of their trepidation associated with this decision. I would recommend that you go with the size that boosts your self-esteem, and fits your anatomy. It's unlikely that you will notice a difference in increments less than 100cc.

Thank you for your pictures and questions. This is a very common concern. Let me answer it by saying that it probably really does not matter what you choose.....and then let me explain. To put things in perspective, the difference in implants is 20 cc, and to put that in another more understandable measurement, that is about 1.35 tablespoons. If you need another reference, that is about the size of two ketchup packets....its a very small difference, so don't fret about it. You could likely put the 285 cc on one side and the 305 cc on the other side, and it would be hard to tell the difference. You are going to be happy with either choice!

You can try on sizers in both to see which you prefer. However, because it just a difference of 20cc, it won’t make a significant impact in the final result.

Hi there, thanks for the question. It can seem daunting when it comes down to choosing implant size. When you are thinking between a 285cc or 305cc implant, there is hardly going to be a visual difference. This is mostly a mental choice at this point. Either of your implants would probably give you a nice result. To help pick I always have patients try on sizers to give them the best chance of picking the right size. If you do this and still not sure I usually advise picking the slightly larger size since patients usually have less regret doing that. Good luck.

breast implant type and sizing selection is a complicated process and requires a detailed consultation that includes a discussion of your goals, a detailed examination, and a lengthy discussion. But the decision will always start and end with the patient. When it comes to sizing, we have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements.Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If it is too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match.Of all of my breast augmentation patients, every one of them has been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. You don't want to invest time and money into a result that is either too big or too small.You should discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon and make sure that your surgeon understands your goals.

Hi.  I think you will have a beautiful result with either of these sizes.  Of course, there is only 20cc difference between them, so they would not look too much different whether you choose the bigger or the smaller.  Have you tried on these sizers in your doctor's office?  If not, then that may help you decide.  If you have tried them on, then you know there isn't much difference.  Most people do choose the larger one to ensure they get the volume they are wanting to achieve, but if you want to look less "enhanced," then the smaller one may be better for you.  Don't worry too much since either of these will look fantastic!  Best of luck!

Thank you for your question and photographs. I think you are starting from an excellent position and should anticipate a nice result. Breast implant selection is an exciting, but stressful part of the breast augmentation process as there are so many choices. Unfortunately it is impossible to recommend the best implant style, size or shape without an in-person examination that allows for the measurement of key breast parameters, as well as permits an in-depth discussion as to your desired goals and outcome. As the difference is overall small I would recommend "trying on" implant sizers in your surgeon's office so that you can have a better visual representation as to what they would look like.
