I visited a board certified plastic surgeon who said the reason my cartilage is protruding in the front is because of the cartilage behind it. he said its an internal problem that needs to be fixed. Could someone explain this procedure to me? He did but in the moment I didn't soak it all in. He said it would be a rhinoplasty procedure and it wouldn't change the my total look just fix it. I would like further explanation of this procedure and why at age 34 it would just start protruding? Thanks.
Answer: Hanging columella. It is hard to judge without a profile view but it seems that the end of your septum (the partition in the middle of your nose) is pushing your columella ( the column between the nostrils) down. This can also happen as a result of stretch of the bands that attach the columella to the septum, something that naturally happens to everyone over the years, causing droopy tip. This is a condition that gets worse as we age.

Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. This is your lower lateral cartilage and likely caudal septum as well, which is contributing to push the lower lateral cartilage down. Based on your photograph, you may benefit from a tip refining rhinoplasty and a cephalic rotation of your tip to turn up your tip slightly. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and not just a computer animation system. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Cartilage issue The medial crura of your lower nasal cartilages are pushing against the skin and a bit splayed out. This may be due to the thin tissue, septal cartilage pushing on it, and/or the splaying of the medial crura. An exam in person would be helpful.

Answer: Rhinoplasty for cartilages protruding in my nose The limited photographs demonstrate thin skin and prominent nasal tip cartilages. A full set of facial photographs and an in-person examination are going to be required to make a determination about what can and cannot be accomplished with the procedure. It is important to release the depressor septi ligament,(if present) which pulls the tip down when smiling. choose your surgeon wisely based on extensive experience

Answer: Cartilage there is cartilage in your nose. There is one type of cartilage in your nose called the septal cartilage which is the wall between the two nostrils. In your case this is slightly enlarged and it is pushing down the Columella -which is the part that people pierce and hang rings from. Buy shaving out a small piece of the septum, the cartilage of the columella will rise up and make your nostrils look better. In the profession we call this "columellar show". You can look this up and see cases if you prefer to learn more.I hope this helps. Best regards
