Can this small bump on nose be removed? If so, how? (Photo)

Question

Had silicone implant to heighten the nose bridge 17 years ago. Recently noticed that perhaps the implant shifted downward with time and possibly created this small bump as my nose was smooth for years after the surgery. It is for sure not a pimple! I know it's probably trivial as removing the implant could do more damage. If I do remove the implant, I do not plan to replace it. What can be done or do I just leave it alone? Thanks.

The bump you allude to is very minor. The brief operation can lower the bump. An alternative is to add filler on either side of the bump to camouflage.

HelloYour bumpo may be due to migration of the silicone implant. In that case it would be better to just remove it because chances are it would get worse with time. Would not recommend fillers as they may create a non natural look and have to be reinjected so do not make sense financially. Upon removal of the implant your surgeon can replace it with minced cartilage harvested from your ear.

The implant may have shifted. This is one of the known problems with using this implant. I would recommend that you leave it alone. Any manipulation may cause loss of the total implant.

You and your surgeon must make a diagnosis of the cause of the bump. Is it due to a shift in the silicone or other causes. Once a diagnosis has been made, a plan can be made to see which procedure should be used.

Implants can shift and migrate over time.  If the implant has shifted causing a small bump on the nose, it can be removed and replaced using your own cartilage and tissue to achieve a similar height without having an implant.  This would lead to a more natural appearing result.  Please consult with a board certified specialist who can assist you and guide you with achieving the results you seek.  3-dimensional computer imaging can also help you visualize what you may look like afterwards and serve as an important communication tool with your surgeon.

Yes with time an implant can shift, so removing it is an option. you will loose some height but not entirely since some scar tissue did formed around the implant. Another option is to put some filler around the bump to "camouflage" it. Make sure you are going to a well trained MD who is used to perform those filler injections.
