I had a rhinoplasty/septoplasty. Internal splints were removed after 4 days when I complained. Was this too early?

The benefit of nasal splints are packing is debatable in any event. Certainly after four days they have fulfilled their use.

I wouldn't be too worried. The majority of times, I don't use any splints or packing in the nose. Your surgeon is the one who needs to make that decision for you, and I wouldn't get too concerned about it. I hope that helps!-Dr. Asaria

I do not usually use splints and I have great results so I would not worry. There is no scientific benefit from the splints per se so I would not call 4 days postop too early at all. Good luck!

I recently conducted a study assessing this. Based on the research available, the use of splints in the first place have no real benefit over not using them. all they do is increase the pain and discomfort. As always, double check with your surgeon but I wouldn't be worried if you were my patient.

Internal nasal splints are used for different reasons.  If your surgeon thought it was OK to remove them at 4 days then it is probably fine.

As long as you are not bleeding then you should be fine.  Your surgeon would not have removed them if it was too early.  The splints can be uncomfortable if you can not breath through your nose.  I do not use splints  on every case, only when internal bleeding is a problem.  

Your surgeon is in charge.  He has had many years of training and experience to be where he is today.  The key here is to trust your surgeon, as he wants your result to be perfect, also.  Best wishes!
