Inguinal Hernia repair first or Tummy Tuck first?

Fix the hernia first.  I am always an advocate of handling the medically necessary issues as a priority!

Great question - and so glad to hear that you have experts for both issues on board with you.  My advice would be to have the hernia repaired at the same time as the tummy tuck. One stop shopping!  Best of luck.

I would have them done at the same time.  If this is not possible, the inguinal hernia can be repaired first.

Hello and thank you for your question. I recommend that the inguinal hernia repair be performed first.  If you are an appropriate candidate for a tummy tuck, this can be done through a low and short
incision, all completely below the bikini line. 
The belly button can be designed to look natural and have no scars on
the exterior.   Your muscles can also be
plicated resulting in a flat abdomen. 
Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of
real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate

Get the hernia done first if they can't be done together. If you have a poor scar if can be addressed at the time of the abdominoplasty. Good luck.

If you have a hernia and the insurance rules do not permit combined procedures, you should always address the medically necessary procedure first.

If possible, the procedures can be performed at the same time.   Some facilities offer a discount for anesthesia and fees for the cosmetic portion of the procedure.   If it is impossible to have them done together, then the inguinal hernia should absolutely be repaired first.   

Why not have the two surgeons work at the same time?  Your plastic surgeon can elevate the abdominal flap and then your general surgeon can come in to repair the hernia.  If not, then the hernia should probably be done first.

Thank you for the question.  In the ideal world, the hernia repair would occur at the same time as the tummy tuck since the tummy tuck incision would offer great exposure to the hernia.  Perhaps your general surgeon can do so at the same time as the tummy tuck procedure.  Your plastic surgeon and general surgeon would have to discuss and arrange this,All the best,Dr. Remus Repta

Thanks for your question.  I understand your concern regarding the inguinal hernia incision placement.  I recommend that you see a general surgeon that performs laparoscopic (minimally-invasive) inguinal hernia repair.  If you are a candidate for this, you will have limited scars that will likely then be removed when you proceed with the tummy tuck.
