If your scar isn't fully closed yet don't put anything on it without speaking to your surgeon. We all have slightly different pre and post operative instructions and your surgeon would know what is best since he did your surgery.Best of luck to you
It may take severalmonths for a tummy tuck patient’s scars to soften, for sensation to return, andfor relaxing of the tight sensation in the abdomen. In the case of extensivesurgery, abdominoplasty recovery can be uncomfortable and may take longer. Scarsmay stay red, become thick or widen. It can take 12-18 months for the scars tosettle. These can be improvedwith topical treatments such as BioCorneum, Scar Guard, Scar Fade and Mederma.Redness can be improved with laser treatments and the scars can be kept narrowwith products such as Embrace. Onoccasion, keloids or hypertrophic scars can develop and will need treatmentincluding Kenalog, 5FU and laser.
I appreciate your question. I would recommend that you discuss this question with your surgeon as every surgeon has their own respective post op protocol for his/her patients. Your surgeon is your best resource as he/she is most familiar with your medical history and how you are healing at this time. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery. Best of luck! Dr. Schwartz Board Certified Plastic Surgeon #RealSelf100Surgeon
If your incision is opened then you have a wound and should consult your PS about wound care which is generally packing with saline gauze. But you should consult with your PS first.
Thanks for the question and hope you had a great holiday. I recommend asking your surgeon as the details of your surgery can make a difference. If you had a surgical glue or tape applied to your skin, then you don't need to apply anything until those come off. If you have a closed incision, generally nothing is needed other than washing with soap and water after you have been cleared by your surgeon. If you have developed an open wound, then you should follow your surgeon's recommendation on cleaning the wound and what kind of dressing to use. Basically, your surgeon knows the details of your surgery and would be most knowledgeable about what to do in your particular case.
Most importantly, you should follow the recommendations of your plastic surgeon. That being said, the most important thing is to keep the incision clean. Shower water would irrigate out any open areas. Then, after showering, you could apply a little antibiotic ointment. This is how I treat open areas, but every surgeon is different. Therefore, I would defer to your surgeon's judgement.
I think that before you put any topical agents on your incision, you should be seen by your surgeon to figure out why you have pain.
if the wound is not totally closed, then you should be treated by your plastic surgeon. I would not take any independent steps to treat an incision. Itching can be indicative of healing but the only way to assess the situation would be with an examination.
Thank you very much for sharing your concerns with us.At this point (2 month post-po) the swelling is normal. To reduce it, I recommend you perform daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the abdomen and wear a postoperative girdle from thigh to the breasts.Kind regards,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol ...
Hello, It is more likely that your bruising is caused by surgery. That being said, there does seem to be a band across your mid-section when your garment is on. Bruising is blood that has leaked out of vessels and has temporarily "stained" the surrounding tissues. It tends to move down the body...
You are absolutely not too old for a tummy tuck. I have performed successful tummy tucks in women into their late 60's. Some of my most happiest tummy tuck patients were older. They just couldn't stand their aging and were unable to wear the clothes they desired. Sometimes the muscle tightening...
