18 months post facelift, neck lift and brow lift I have tightness, numbness and a burning sensation under my skin. Advice?

Hello. Thank you for your question. I see that it was posted back in 2019. If you are still having problems, I have had one patient experience a similar sensation under her neck skin. I referred her to a neurologist who treated her with some medications that were very helpful to settle things down. This could be something you can try if you have not already done so.

It is not unusual to feel some prolonged discomfort, pain and tightness following a face and neck lift.  This should gradually improve and dissipate by 18 months, unfortunately beyond this, it is unlikely to resolve.  It would be useful for you to see a neurologist or chronic pain specialist

It is unusual to have this much discomfort so far out from a facelift.  An evaluation by a surgeon to determine where the areas of discomfort are located and if any scar release can help alleviate your symptoms is warrented. 

Have your doctor check you for trigger points in thesymptomatic areas. If present you may try desensitizationtechniques and cold over the points. Best wishes.

Hi,You may benefit from visiting with a neurologist to have your symptoms evaluated. Many sensory nerves are cut during a facelift and it can take many months for complete sensation to return, but pain is unusual this far out from surgery. Best,

Unfortunately, this kind of symptom profile ( sensory dysasthesia ) does occur after facelifting surgery albeit very rarely. It is not known why some patients react in this way. It may be due to the pattern of new nerve growth during recovery.
It may be useful to see a pain specialist. Sometimes medication can help, specifically adding Amitryptiline in small doses to analgesia. (This is a prescription medication not available over the counter ) You could also benefit from massage, lymphatic drainage therapy and desensitisation techniques. The symptoms almost always improve over time but it can take awhile. I would ask your doctor to refer you to a pain specialist for an assessment and management plan. Hope it all improves for you.
