I'm 29 years old and had juvederm voluma injected into my cheeks/cheekbone area in January. I noticed right away that my undereye area seemed sunken and made me look older. Here it is July and It is still quite noticeable (but a little bit less). What is going on?? Should I let it fade or should I have more juvederm injected in the tear trough area?
Answer: Sunken Eyes From Cheek Filler Hi Elle. Without seeing your before and after pictures it's hard to tell what's going on. Generally, Voluma injected into the cheeks should actually help improve the appearance of the tear troughs as well. However, if you have significant volume loss in the tear trough area then you may require additional filler given directly to the tear troughs. You should return to see your injector for a follow up if you haven't already. Best of luck.

Answer: Cheek and Tear Trough Fillers Sometimes when the cheeks are injected the eyes need to be as well. i suggest speaking to a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon who specializes in fillers and facial contouring. Cannulas will help limit complications. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Juvederm Voluma and Under-Eye Hollows Fear not, elle2125! The injection of Juvederm Voluma itself should have had no impact on tissue elsewhere on your face, however now that your cheeks have been lifted and volumized, it is likely your tear trough area just appears deeper in comparison. You likely had some swelling immediately after your treatment, and now that the swelling has subsided, the difference is not as apparent but still noticeable to you. Juvederm Voluma can last up to two years, so it is at your discretion whether to let your body gradually absorb the product, at which point the contrast between your cheeks and under-eyes would decrease. Another option would be to inject additional filler under your eyes. Although different doctors favor different fillers, I prefer to inject Restylane for the tear trough area through the use of a cannula. I have personally found that with the proper mixing and placement, Restylane provides the most natural-looking, smoothest results with minimal risk of swelling and lumps. If you do decide to move forward with under-eye filler, be sure to seek out the treatment of a board certified Dermatologist and experienced injector. Best of luck!

Answer: Voluma and eyes Hello! Without pictures I'm just speculating, but some people have more deeply-set eyes than others. When a deep filler like Voluma is used in the mid-cheek - it can accentuate and the depth of the area under the eyes (especially the area under your eye next to your nose - called a "tear trough") and also create shadowing. This can sometimes be improved by adding some filler to this area - but it's technical and takes skill, so check with your injector and make sure they do this procedure frequently. Good luck!
