I had laparoscopic colon resection. 9/23, I have wanted a tummy tuck before the need for the colon resection. Is it still possible?( no colostomy )
Answer: Tummy tuck post colon resection Dear Resourceful154089, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Absolutely An elective colon resection, especially done laparoscopically, is not a contraindication for a tummy tuck. The important thing to know here would be what was the reason for the colon resection. If it were cancer, it’s important to know that it is cured. When I examined a patient that has had any previous abdominal surgery I I’m always checking for any hernia that could be present and need to be addressed. There may be some differences of opinions in the length of time to wait, but I would generally recommend waiting six months after this type of surgery before undergoing a tummy tuck, but it could definitely be done barring any other potential health issues.

Answer: Tummy tuck post colon resection? Thanks so much for your question, Having a tummy tuck after a colon resection is possible, but it requires careful planning and consideration. Ensure that you’re in good health, with no ongoing issues related to the colon resection, such as infection, inflammation, or significant scar tissue. Maintain a stable weight for at least 6 months before considering a tummy tuck, If the colon resection was due to a condition like Crohn’s disease or diverticulitis, your condition should be well-managed and stable. Speak with both your colon surgeon and a board-certified plastic surgeon to ensure your abdomen is ready for a cosmetic procedure. Sincerely, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol

Answer: Tummy tuck after Abdominal Surgery thank you for your question. Short answer, yes this can be performed. Tummy tucks can often be performed even with larger scars from previous abdominal surgeries, (like open cholecystecomies , Elap for example). Laparoscopic scars are very small and are usually of concern. Patients should be examined for incisional hernias. Your plastic surgeon will be able to advice you best, including how your past medical history leading to the colon resection may affect your planned tummy tuck procedure. During my residency at Yale we published an article addressing previous abdominal surgeries in patients undergoing a lipoabdominoplasty. It can be done, but not every surgeon may feel comfortable with it. We found a lipoabdominoplasty with muscle tightening often to be a great procedure in similiar cases. You'll find the info in my link. I hope this helps.

Answer: Prior Abdominal Surgery and Tummy Tuck Yes, it is generally possible to have a tummy tuck after a laparoscopic colon resection. Since the procedure was laparoscopic, the impact on your abdominal wall is likely minimal compared to an open surgery, making it easier to perform a tummy tuck later on. However, there are important considerations. First, ensure that you have fully recovered from the colon resection, which typically requires waiting at least 6–12 months for complete healing to reduce the risk of complications like poor wound healing or infection. It’s also important to discuss your case with an experience plastic surgeon experienced in post-abdominal surgery. They will assess your anatomy, including any potential scar tissue from the colon resection, to plan your tummy tuck procedure safely. Be sure to share all details of your medical history to ensure a tailored surgical plan that maximizes safety and results. With the right preparation and an experienced surgeon, you should achieve great results from your tummy tuck.
