I had a botched donut lift, leaving me with uneven areolas, even after a revision was performed on one side. I am planning to get a medical tattoo to make the areolas more symmetrical. I am fairly certain I will need a real breast lift after I kids, maybe in 3-5 years. Would I be able to do this if part of my areola is actually a tattoo? Thank you.

Answer: Yes, it would be possible. Hi mm3789, In a breast lift or breast reduction, the nipple stays alive by being attached to the underlying tissue. The areola is often wider the needed, and is reduced, or made smaller, during this operation. The tattooed portion of the areola would be kept on a blood supply, similar to how the blood supply is kept to the nipple and native areola itself, and could be moved in a lift or reduction. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Christopher Pannucci MDBoard Certified Plastic SurgeonPlastic Surgery NorthwestSpokane, WA

Answer: Bellesoma Method Yes, a medical tattoo is not a contra-indication to have surgery in the future. The breast lift technique I recommend is The Bellesoma Method. This will reshape your breast tissue creating upper pole fullness without implants, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained. Later, fat transfers can be performed if additional volume is desired. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.
