Can I have a rhinoplasty done before Bimax Jaw Surgery?

It's difficult to answer your question because surgery on the upper jaw can change the appearance of somebody's nose. In general, it may be wise to treat your malocclusion first, and then deal with rhinoplasty afterwards. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

This is an excellent question. When bimax or double jaw surgery is performed, the movement of the maxilla can alter the overall shape of the nose. If the maxilla is brought forward, the lower part of the nose will widen. Conversely, if the maxilla is set back, the lower part of the nose may narrow. While this does not affect a dorsal bump, the balance of your nose can change after maxillomandibular surgery. Therefore, it is best to perform nose surgery after your double jaw operation.

There is no reason that a rhinoplasty could not be done but this needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis

Hello and thank you for your question. This will depend on how much maxillary movement is required in your jaw surgery. If significant maxillary movement is required, that should be done first. If little movement is needed, rhinoplasty can be done first. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

I would probably steer towards doing the cranial facial procedure before a rhinoplasty, but I dont know if timing is all that important.
In the end it simply depends on the situation. If the nasal projection is Accentuated by the shape of the maxilla than after maxillary surgery the indication of rhinoplasty will change.
