Do I need more than two weeks time to recover from under eye filler? (photo)

Question

Two weeks ago, I visited a double board certified plastic surgeon in NYC, for tear trough injections. This was after three consultations with different doctors. During the procedure, I got light headed, my heart rate increased, and I felt nauseous. The doctor paused then proceeded after I felt better. The doctor used a needle to inject Restaylne. Two weeks later, I still have bruising. One tear trough appears lifted and the other has a lump under the skin (no Tyndall effect). Is this normal?

There can be some swelling and/or lumps after injections which can last 1-2 weeks. You can apply firm pressure between two fingers for a few days, for 5 mins a time, in order to help decrease swelling and even out the lumps. If you're unhappy with your final results you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Bruising and swelling should resolve after a week or two after treatment, though it can last longer for some.  Using arnica cream may help bruising improve more quickly.  Gentle massage of the area may help smooth the contour.  As you have other concerns I encourage you to return to your injector for a follow up to your treatment.

It is possible that you still have some bruising in this area or even some fluid retention. Gently massage from midline out and use warm compresses if you feel tender and bruised. I would give this one more week and if not improved go back to your doctor to evaluate.

I think it would be in your best interest to speak to the Doctor who treated you. After using hyaluronic acid fillers for more than 26 years I personally do not like using hyaluronic acid fillers in the tear trough area as they invariably produce lower eyelid bags over time. I prefer to use autologous fat grafting. Again speak to your treating physician and good luck from New York City
