There's blue on my lips and tingling a month after Restylane. Is this worrisome? Will it get worse? (photo)

Restylane classic if is injected too superficially, can cause tyndall effect. ANd it appears that this is what you have. I prefer Juvederm or Restylane refyne for the lips. they do much better with less possibility to cause tyndall issues.  

This is an infrequent side-effect with Restylane injections, specifically with Restylane Kysse. The filler tends to collect into these discrete “gell balls”. In my practice, I would first attempt vigorous massage of the lips and if that doesn’t resolve the issue, I would dissolve completely and inject with Juvederm or any other filler.

Based on the photograph, it seems the filler may have been placed too superficially, which can lead to the bluish discoloration and also the irregular contour of the lip. I would recommend seeing your injector back for further evaluation and consideration of dissolving the filler.

Thank you for your question. Based on the photo you submitted, it appears that maybe your doctor injected too superficially and not deep enough. The blue tint will disappear with time, however if it bothers you, you can have it dissolved. Best of luck, Dr. Heffernan

Thank you for your question,It is mostly due to the superficial infection of fillers. I suggest you go back to your doctor for check up or hyaluronidase to dissolve the fillers.Best Wishes

I don't have a good explanation for the tingling sensation, but it could be related to a superficial placement of the filler. The lip is a very sensitive area of the body and a superficial placement can interfere with sensations. Most definitely, a superficial placement of a filler is associated with the blue appearance or Tyndall effect. In short, the Tyndall effect is the scattering of light by the filler particles under the lip. If the filler is placed close to the surface of the skin, you can see the blue color. If it placed more deeply, you cannot see the effect. When treating fine lines, a superficial placement is required and a Tyndall effect is possible. Luckily, when treating fine lines, such a small amount of filler is used that the blue Tyndall effect is less noticeable. When filling the lip, a slightly deeper placement is recommended to give a natural full effect and minimize a blue Tyndall effect. The blue color is not worrisome as there is nothing inherently wrong with the lip and with time, as the product naturally dissolves, the blue color should fade. The blues appearance can be quickly corrected by removing the filler with hyaluronidase.

This is due to a superficial injection of product.  FYI--it is not just from Restylane, but would occur with any filler.  The first thing I think about when I hear about blue or pale lips is a compromise of the vascular system.  However, this is not the case with yours and it would be more immediate after your injection.  I would have a discussion with your injector about options to dissolve it or wait. 
Also, are you happy with the shape of your lips and the dimensions?  One thing I notice from the photo is that your upper lip is much larger than the bottom.  In general, the goal is to be 40:60 upper:lower or 50:50.  That said, personal choice plays a role in this.  You paid alot of money to have your lips treated, you should be pleased with the result

The blue discoloration may represent Tyndall at this point 4 weeks after your treatment. Tyndall can be seen when hyaluronic acid based filler is placed too superficially. If it bothers you, you can have the filler dissolved using hyaluronidase. Otherwise, it will resolve on its own as the body degrades the filler. 

Hello - 1 month out from filler injections, the only reason to see blue under the lip skin is if the filler was placed too close to the skin surface and is causing a Tyndall effect. If you are happy with the result this can be monitored and eventually when the filler is resorbed the blue color will disappear. Otherwise, if this blue line concerns you, you should see your injector to discuss options for treatment.
