Is it normal to have a blue/dark discoloration After Injection of Juvederm in cheeks

Sounds like you developed bruises after your cheek injections which is common. It will take about 2 weeks for the swelling and bruising to subside and for the  product to fully settle.  I would recommend that you see your injector in 2 weeks for a follow up.  

There are numerous causes for discoloration after soft tissue filler injection.  Without more details as to when the injections were provided, when the discoloration appeared, how long it has been present, other symptoms associated with it, etc. it is not possible to answer your question.  I would suggest contacting your physician and seeking his/her guidance.

The discolouration you see is bruising, and this is common following a Juvederm injection. The bruising is related to the injection itself, rather than the product, and it will gradually subside over the next few days.It would be best if you book a follow up appointment with your injector in 1-2 weeks, and he/she can massage any residual lumps or bumps at that time. You are still recovering from the treatment and have some swelling as well which tends to subside in a week or two.

Hello, Bluish discoloration can be caused by bruising, which will take about 2 weeks to resolve. It can also be related to the Juvederm being too close to the surface and actually being able to see the gel through the  skin. Return to your doctor for in-person advise. 

It is common to bruise at the sight of injection, but it will go away in 1-2 weeks. I would recommend arnica as it is helpful for helping with bruising.

Bruising and "bumpiness" following Juvederm injections are not uncommon and should go away with time.  However, if Juvederm is placed too superficially or in excess quantity, it can result in visible bumps or blanching/ bluish discoloration of the surrounding area.The bumps can sometimes appear bluish due to differential light scattering, which is known as the Tyndall effect.  In some instances, this discoloration can persist beyond the effective duration of the filler itself.Options for treating the Tyndall effect and palpable nodules include attempted aspiration, intralesional steroid injection, massage, injectable hyaluronidase, or surgical excision. A Q-switched, 1064-nm laser also has been successfully used to lessen the Tyndall effect. Most practioners’ first choice is hyaluronidase injection.

This is almost certainly bruising, and not a Tyndall effect.To minimize bruising, I have patients avoid supplements and medications that can cause bruising (there is a very long list), use blunt-tipped cannulas, mix a little epinephrine into the fillers, use ice packs both immediately during/after the injections as well as at home, recommend arnica gel and tabs, vitamin K cream, and prescription Biafine, and inject small amounts of filler at a time, very slowly. After the fact, vitamin K cream and Biafine can be helpful, and I laser any bruises with GentleLase, which is dramatically effective in most patients. it will resolve. Using a yellow cream (Clinique or Physician's formula) under a setting powder snd an opaque foundation will cover them fairly well.I have found that with all orbpart of these measures, bruising is unusual or minor.All the best!  Dr. Clark

Hello Ralba, Thank you for your question.Without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of any further treatments it is difficult to be comprehensive.Sometimes the Juvederm if injected superficially can lead to a blueish hue.  This is called the Tindel Effect.  Other casuses of discoloration include bruising which can take weeks to resolve especially when injections are placed superficially. I would return to your physician to examine these areas closely and consider enzyme to dissolve the product if its too superficial or consider makeup coverage if its just bruising until it resorbs.Good Luck, Dr. S

Filler that is injected superficially can leave a bluish hue and may cause a lump. Best to be seen in person to be properly evaluated.

It is very common to bruise after any fillers and really should be expected. I don't know when you had the injections, but swelling and bruising can take about 2 weeks to fully resolve.
