Is a Laxative before lipo helpful?

Hello! Taking a laxative before surgery will not benefit or change your results or how much is liposuctioned. Each surgeon has their own pre operative protocols you should always ask your surgeon before taking anything before surgery, Best of luck. 

A stool softener should be reasonable prior to lipo but not a laxative.  Most board certified PSs provide a pre-operative list of medications that should be avoided prior to PS; check your provider's list or phone the PS's patient coordinator.

there is no reason to do this and you should speak to your physician about it before you chose to do so. after its recommended to do so and apart of my post-operative protocol.

We do not recommend our patients to take laxative before any surgery, even those who have difficulties with bowels movement. However, we do advise patients to take laxative or fiber rich diet after surgery because anesthesia and pain meds will slow bowels and that may be significant problem with some patients. Postoperative diet is important part of our counseling before any elective procedure including liposuction and BBL. Good luck.

I appreciate your concern, however taking laxatives prior to your procedure will have no bearing on the operation. Liposuction procedures are performed removing fat from the deeper layers beneath the skin. Discuss all pre-operative preparations with your board certified plastic surgeon. good luck.

every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

I would not take a laxative before surgery as you may have cramps during surgery. Bloating is very common after dairy products and gluten. You may try to stay away from these for a few days prior to surgery to make your post0operative course more comfortable. Lactaid can be very helpful reducing bloating to take with dairy products.Thank you for your question, and good luck.

bloating should not really affect the results of the liposuction.  But it might help you feel better in the recovery.  Gluten allergies are often associated with bloating.  Take gluten out of your diet and see if your boating decreases.

Hello, I would discourage you from taking a laxative prior to your surgery, as it may cause unwanted results during and after the surgery. If you are suffering from bloating and constipation I would highly suggest that you see your family doctor or nutritionist about potential causes of this prior undergoing surgery. Once your IBS problems have been solved, you will be required to fast in regards to both liquids and solids ~ 12 hours (NPO) prior to your surgery.
