Hi there, I'm a 26 year old female with good skin, but I am considering getting restylane or juvederm injected in my tear troughs to treat a sunken/hollow undereye that was always a natural part of my facial structure. My question is, if I start getting fillers at such a young age, will my skin start to age prematurely in that area? IE, will the skin become thin and crepey over time from the stretching and filling? Lastly, would you recommend restylane/juvederm/other for my young undereye skin?

Answer: The Early Use Of Fillers Is Believed To Slow The Further Progression Of Wrinkles & To Retard Their Redevelopment The early use of fillers, in any location, is actually nowadays believed to be able to slow the further progression of wrinkles and to retard their redevelopment. I have personally treated many young patients in their late teens and early twenties, including my daughters in law, with fillers. We have actually found that the injection of fillers not only directly plumps an area, but secondarily promotes the production of new, native collagen, a process known as neocollagenesis. Collagen tends to last longer than hyaluronic acid, and so the results of treatment may last longer. So, the short answer to your question of whether early injection ages the skin is a resounding most definitely NOT.As to the treatment of undereye dark circles and hollows, you can learn a lot more by researching the archives of Realself.com. My injectable agents of choice for that location are a combination of Belotero Balance, and a tiny amount of Radiesse. Belotero has little tendency to engender the unwanted bluish, Tyndall Effect that can be seen when fillers like Restylane are injected superficially in the delicate tissues around the eyes, and Radiesse is a whitish colored filler that helps to lighten dark circles.Be sure to seek consultation with an experienced, board certified injector with extensive experience and expertise in injecting around the eyes. Make sure to ask to see his/her before and after photos.

Answer: It all depends It depends on how much filler and where and what type. Generally speaking, less is more in my hands and that will only maintain a youthful look and have you age gracefully over time, but if overdone it can cause premature aging.

Answer: Will fillers age skin over time? Conservative filler treatments will not age the skin over time. The same can be said for Botox. You are not wedded to any injectable treatments and they can be stopped or restarted at any time in the future. These are maintenance treatments that can prevent lines and folds from forming or worsening over time. With regard to the undereye area, in my experience, Belotero and Restylane are superior to Juvederm. Juvederm can draw in water and create puffiness in some cases. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Dermal fillers actually help stimulate collagen Studies have proven that the cells in the dermis of the skin, the fibroblasts, actually get stretched by the filler and start producing more of your own natural collagen. Be careful, however, with filler in the tear trough area. This is the most technically difficult areas to inject.

Answer: No evidence There is no eveidence that having fillers actually accelerates aging of your skin. In fact just the opposite. It is likely that fillers stimulate your own collegen to form and for elasticity of your skin to improve.
