How many ccs of fat do doctors usually inject for lip augmentation?

I’m interested in having fat transfer to my lips and/or a lip lift performed by an plastic surgeon during an upcoming fat transfer to my cheeks/Rhinoplasty surgery with him. My surgeon doesn’t know yet that I have a slight gummy smile. I don’t feel comfortable posting my photo here. I will tell my surgeon about my smile. I read that a lip lift can make gummy smiles worse. Could that also happen with fat transfer to the lips? I’m uninterested in dermal fillers because of their temporary effects.

Unfortunately, you have not provided photographs and it is not possible to give you an answer on how many cc’s or if a lip lift would be indicated.  Lip lifts can create more of a gummy smile but can produce excellent results with hidden scars when indicated or performed properly.  Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  A lip lift would exacerbate a gummy smile as it would increase tooth show at rest and with animation.  As for the amount of fat typically placed it is in the 2-4cc range, but depends on a patient’s goal results.  Hope this helps.

I appreciate your concern and it is best to discuss specifics with your board-certified plastic surgeon with regard to this particular procedure. Usually 2 to 4 mL of fat is needed. I’ve never been a fan of lip lift surgery because of scarring and Lip Augmentation with fat or filler is a better choice for you. Good luck.

Since you have already decided on who your plastic surgeon is going to be, I believe you should hold off on your surgery until after you've had a full discussion about what it is that you expect from that surgeon.
