Will botox for gummy smile lengthen my upper lip at rest?

Thank you for supplying photos, but unfortunately they are not at standardized angles for proper examination. Botox may be used for a Gummy Smile. Botox is used to relax the muscle and inhibit strong movements. Therefore, a Gummy Smile Botox treatment will NOT lengthen the lip in any way while its at rest. It will only reduce it's sharp movements upward when you smile fully. If seeking potential treatment, I strongly recommend that you follow up with an experienced injector, preferably a Facial Plastics Surgeon.

Botox is a neuromodulator that works by relaxing facial muscles to reduce the appearance of a gummy smile. The effect is restricted to facial movements, which means when your lip is in a resting position, you should not see any difference. The medication will only restrict your lip from pulling up when you smile - it will not lengthen the upper lip in any way. 
From your photo, it appears you might benefit from a combination of Botox to reduce the gummy smile and dermal fillers to increase fullness in the upper lip. I recommend you schedule a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist with expertise in this treatment. With the right provider, you could achieve very satisfying results. 

I have been treating gummy smiles with Botox for more than two decades. While it can lead to some slight lengthening, the vast majority of people are extremely gratified with the results. Your doctor may give you a "trial" by injecting some dilute anesthetic rather than the Botox at the appropriate treatment sites. The anesthetic effect on the nerves can sometimes reproduce (albeit for only up to two hours) the effect of the Botox, just enough to give you some idea of the benefit you are likely to obtain with the actual Botox (or Dysport or Xeomin). It is possible that the Botox could slightly increase your upper lip length, but we actually inject Botox in this area to do just the opposite (Botox lip flip). This everts the lip and shows more pink lip. To some degree it depends on which part of the muscle you are injecting. To crease a lip flip, I focus my injection closer to the vermillion border (orbicularis oris muscle) to weaken the portion which is responsive for curling the lip inward. When injecting for gummy smile, I usually try to target the levator muscles. It is possible to help with botox, but it may require a little trial and error to get it 100 percent to your liking as it is a very nuanced and delicate injection your require.

I would suggest a little bit of a neurotoxin on the upper lip to help reduce the gummy smile and a tiny bit of lip filler to do the same 
as we age we lose lip fullness and that can contribute to the gummy smile appearance

If done properly, Botox should not change your resting lip position. However, for best results, I will often use a combination of Botox and lip filler to correct a gummy smile. This allows maximum improvement with limiting the amount of Botox needed.

Hello and thank you for your question. I would not expect Botox to lengthen your upper lip. I am sure you research the topic and know that Botox  treatment last 3-4 months and needs to be re injected a that time.There is another option, which you might want to consider. It is a permanent solution. Lip repositioning is a minor plastic surgery procedure where the inside of the lip is attached closer to the tops of the teeth. Most women also appreciate a positive side effect of the procedure: a fuller upper lip.All the best to you.
