For tummy tuck patients, I will remove the drains once the output is less than 30 cc’s per drain in a 24 hour period.
In my practice I wait till the drainage is less than 30cc for a 24 hour period and continue compression
Drain removal usually is advised when the output is minimal to absent. Patience is key with an abdominal drain after abdominoplasty. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
Surgeons all have their own protocols but in my practice I usually remove the drains once the output is less than 40cc/24 hours. I am concerned about infection with prolonged drain insertion and would rather remove the drains earlier, even if there is a higher chance of a fluid collection (seroma) that requires drainage. This is usually a straightforward office procedure.
Each surgeon is different but a general guideline is to remove the drain when it is putting out less than 30cc in 24 hours.
What are your doctor's instructions/indications for drain removal?25cc/24 hours for how many days?Does your abdomen feel comfortable? Any indicaton of residual fluid under the skin(fluid wave when you roll on your side)?May be ready to be removed..Best of luck
It all depends on each individual and how surgeons treat pain. In my practice we use Experel which is a long acting pain medication that lasts 72 hours and keeps patients very comfortable in the immediate post operative period which is the most painful and demands the highest amount of narcotic use

It is unlikely that loose skin on the abdomen would be a major contributor to lower back pain because it usually does not weigh very much. The total weight of resected skin on a patient who has undergone massive weight loss is often only a few pounds. I would suggest seeing your doctor to...
