Hi, considering surgery for chin recession and wondering if genioplasty or a chin implant is a good option in my case? Thanks!
Answer: Yes - both good Yes, these are procedures that we do a lot at my office. Chin implants can be done right in the office often, and genioplasty requires about an hour in the operating room we have on site. The key will be looking at your occlusion (how your teeth fit together. Watch our videos to learn more.

Answer: Genioplasty or chin implant for chin recession A genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay at the hospital, and is usually performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment. A chin implant is performed under local anesthesia in the office setting, which takes about 30 minutes and is much less invasive.

Answer: Chin, augmentation options Chin augmentation can be done effectively with a sliding genioplasty, using implants, or with the use of fillers. Fillers are temporary, but are very forgiving and easily adjustable, giving them certain advantages and disadvantages. Implants and sliding genioplasty, likewise have certain advantages and disadvantages. The procedures are often both done by oral surgeons and plastic surgeons. It seems like oral surgeons have a slight preference for a sliding genioplasty while plastic surgeons seem to perform implants, but there is no absolute, and either specialty could potentially do either of the procedures. In the end, the most important variable is finding a provider who has efficient schedule an experience to deliver, consistent quality outcomes.I suggest you have in person, consultations with both oral surgeons and plastic surgeons in your community. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar facial characteristics to your own. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you with the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. Highly experienced surgeons should in fact have hundreds or preferably thousands of before and after pictures to choose from. Rather than focusing on which procedure is better, I suggest you focus your efforts on finding the best provider. In the end, finding the right surgeon is probably more important than which technique they use. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
