Are massages after liposuction still recommended?

Large volume liposuction typically involves a large volume of tumescent solution that is used to perform the procedure. This can leave patients with significant swelling in the post operative period. To aid in drainage and recovery, I always recommend massages beginning 5-7 days post op at a frequency of once a week for at least 6 weeks. Most patients report faster recovery, decrease in swelling and asymmetry from the fibrosis of liposuction. Good luck!

Lymphatic messages are an important part of your ultimate healing process. Hi, in my opinion they are very important. I recommend to all my patients because massages prevents fibrosis. But you have to search for a good therapist with experience in liposuction recovery.

I ask my patients to do their own massage because they know how tender the areas are. I do not recommend doing lymphatic massages early on since the lymphatics were not disturbed and the massages are often too rough and painful and increase swelling. Massage too hard and too early can cause more harm than benefit.

There’s specific postop care and indications that you must follow. In my practice you must do postop massages and are required to stay here to do so, so I am sure the people who are giving you the treatment are greatly qualified to help you achieve the best result possible. What we try to achieve with the massages is help the inflammatory serum and liquids do get removed and avoid irregularities or fibrosis.
