Lipoaspirate/Vaser- how much does it weigh?

Question

If Vaser and PAL technique is used (not WAL), approximately how much fat (percentage wise) is each liter removed compared to the blood/tumescent that’s also removed? Is it fair to say 60-80% per liter is pure fat once it floats to the top or is there more blood and fluid that is removed than fat? I know fat = 0.9 grams/cc so I know how to calculate the weight of the fat, but wasn’t sure how many cc of fat is actually aspirated during lipo using Vaser and PAL.

Excellent technical question, but there really isn’t a specific number to put on it. The percentage of fat is quite variable, mostly depending on technique (i.e. wet, super wet, tumescent), but also skill and aggressiveness of the surgeon, body location, and patient. If i’m doing a medial thigh for instance, with a superwet technique I anticipate that about 20% of the infiltrate volume will be removed via aspiration (the remainder absorbed by the body). So if I infiltrate 1 L and aspirate a volume of 1L, I would anticipate about 800ml of that to be fat. This has been pretty consistent as well when the aspirate has been filtered for fat grafting.

This question will vary with each procedure so there is no direct way to answer your question.  When the aspirate is suctioned it is collected in containers where it is easily measured.  Your surgeon can let you know what was collected during your procedure.

The actual amount of fat and fluid removed is different for every patient. It does depend upon how much fluid was actually infiltrated and the total volume removed and how much fat was present to be removed.  If you want to know how much fat was removed, ask your surgeon.
