Having a well developed, mandible has a lot of advantages. It protects people from having a double chin, protects people from developing premature jowls and allows excellent jawline definition into old age. It’s far better to have a well developed mandible than a mandible that is small and lacking in projection. A strong mandible also implies an authoritative appearance, though it can balance on being masculine if excessive. Chin reduction is a fairly complex procedure more commonly performed by oral surgeons, but some plastic surgeons may have experience doing this as well. There is generally a skeletal and soft tissue component to the procedure. I suggest calling around to both plastic surgeons and oral surgeons in your community to see who has extensive experience doing the procedure. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up the portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who have similar facial characteristics to your own. You may have to consult with a few providers to find someone who has sufficient experience to get consistent quality outcomes. This procedure is not nearly as common as augmenting the chin.
