Why is it taking so long to heal after facelift? (Photo)

Facelift healing has many influences. Clean hands especially finger nails are essential to good wound healing. Hair shampooing to loosen the scabs with peroxide and antibiotic ointment will help. Good nutrition and rest are also factors.

This is the normal process.  Listen to your PS. I am glad you do not have issues with the results. The incisions will heal and from what i see, your incisions will heal well.  This is not an uncommon event.

The area skin shone demonstrates some cyanosis. The delayed healing may be due to the fact that the blood supply has been decreased by the technique.

The recovery from a facelift varies from patient to patient. Some look and feel great 2 weeks after surgery, and others are bothered by lumps and bumps or changes in skin sensations for months after. As surgeons we can't predict who will heal quickly and who won't, and this can be frustrating for all of us. You are experiencing what is commonly known as "poor wound healing" and from your photos it looks like this will resolve on its own over time and look good when healed. Keep in touch with your surgeon and assess how the incisions look about 1 year after surgery. If you aren't happy with the way they look, you may be able to discuss scar revision with your surgeon.

Yes, you have a little delay in the healing. But it should end up being fine. I also like Aquaphor but you should listen to your surgeon's advice. Hang in there.

Thanks for the pictures. This is like you and maybe some minor skin loss. The scab will eventually flake off when the skin beneath his heal. There really isn't any treatment for this at this point. Time is your best ally

Every patient heals differently. Looks like you're doing fine. Just be patient. The scabs will fall off on their own. Sometimes, gently massaging with a little vitamin e oil helps.

Healing after a facelift can be variable and is very dependent on both the patient and the surgery. It looks like on your left side above your ear there was a spot where the skin may have separated a little bit and is healing slowly. this is a normal process if the skin edges separated a small amount. Otherwise, if it is not painfull and no "fluid" under the skin, as others suggested it unfortunately is likely a slow process for you. The key is to speak to your surgeon and ensure you are using good wound care principles. Ask whether you should be putting an antibiotic gel or some other type of protective gel over these areas as it can in some cases speed up healing. Hopefully things start progressing quicker for you. 

This wound, as long as you keep it clean, should heal in another week. One reason for skin breakdown like this or delayed healing is a family history of diabetes. Patients who have such a condition in the family may have delayed healing in the absence blood test evidence of diabetes on the given patient. You may want to ask your medical doctor to make sure that you do not have a very mild diabetes, specially if there is a family history of diabetes.

Facelift surgery is a significant operating that can sometimes take several months to heal.  Local healing problems are more often related to smokers, but is a risk for any patient.  I would continue to keep the area clean and follow your doctor's advice.  Healing should be good long term.
