Lip filler and philtrum? How to raise my upper lip? (photos)

Hello, I did lip fillers for two times in 1 year with hyaluronic acid, I have very thin lips especially the upper one which was almost unexistent. The last time they put on a thicker filler which last longer but I'm not really happy with the result. I'd like to raise the upper lip, to make it closer to my nose instead of falling down. The doctor suggested me to add filler on the philtrum to achieve this result. Do you think it's the best thing to do? I don't want a fake result.

Fillers can be used to raise the upper lip. The Philtral column injection can do this. Also filler needs to be placed inside the wet-dry line of the upper lip so it can push off the teeth. These will only give a limited result for some patients while others have much more change. If you’ve already tried fillers but are underwhelmed with the result, you should consider a lip lift with temporalis augmentation. This will give a permanent result.

These fillers, (Volbella, Restylane, Juvederm) are good to create a symmetrical lip and improve lift. Nova threads can be used to improve lift and shape. Implants or fat are alternatives. It is hard question to answer without in person evaluation and discussion about your goals and options. In younger person filler is a better option in my opinion since you avoid  scar underneath the nose. Good luck.

The best way to raise your upper lip is a lip lift using an extended bullhorn technique.  This will shorten the distance between your nose and upper lip, increase the mucosa of the upper lip, increase your incisor show and pull up the corners.  This is a permanent procedure.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Sam.  Placement of fillers to create or accentuate philtral columns must be done expertly and conservatively or can look horrifically fake! My opinion, the key to successful the lip augmentation is a combination of modest but significant augmentation with filler placed exactly to maintain a natural look. Consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist in your area to explore the best options for you. Fillers can be used to evert the lip as well as add volume to the lips. In some cases, adding Botox/Dysport to the treatment plan can help further evert the lip, the so called "lip flip". I recommend you see an experienced aesthetic physician for a detailed in person evaluation.

The lip lift is performed under local anesthesia and it involves removing some of the excess skin from the base of your nose and reducing the length between the nose and lip. If you do not have philtral columns, then creating a pair would be very nice and it will provide a small amount of a central portion of the lip lift. It would have been very helpful if you had provided a photograph of a straight-on shot. In patients who truly have long upper lip distance, doing a Texas bull horn style lip lift is advantageous. A properly perform lip augmentation will also raise the lip and make the red portion of the lip look taller. Good luck from New York City
