Will bending over after a BBL impact results?

I don't think it would. The real killer of fat after BBL is prolonged pressure - usually from sitting or laying. A routine amount of bending over should not be a problem.

Prolonged periods of sitting on hard surfaces will put undue pressure on the fat and can lead to poor take of the fat graft. Bending associated with activities of daily living should have no impact on long term graft survival.

Dear hadtobecrystal, thanks for sharing your concern, this is simply not true, that fat can be kill over bad alimentation. But every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. Make sure you go on consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. It doesn't look that bending over would affect your result after fat transfer. We usually recommend our patient to avoid sitting on the grafted area longer than half an hour at the time for 6 weeks or so. However, nobody ever confirmed that that makes significant difference in fat graft survival. Hope this helps.

I instruct my patients not to sit for 2 solid weeks. We provide them a specialized pillow that our patients can sit on during that time. They can sleep on their stomachs or sides. Fat viability depends a lot of surgeon technique. The fat has to be placed back into the buttocks as soon as possible so that it has a greater chance of survival. It has to be placed carefully so that not too much fat is placed in only one area.

When fat is transferred it is a "graft" meaning it has no blood supply of its own. This means it cannot get nutrients such as oxygen etc without stealing it from nearby tissue. When we do high volume fat transfer to the buttocks, it is not possible for every last fat cell to set up and steal appropriate nutrients. This means only some of the fat will survive the transfer. It is different from patient to patient but most retain ~50% of what is transferred. Like any "graft" the fate of the fat is decided within hours of the transfer. There has been no study to look at what has a negative effect on the fat after transfer. Many patients choose to not sit or apply pressure for a prolonged period in hopes to create a better environment for this fat. The truth is we don't know if that changes the outcome at all. Just as we don't know if bending has an affect. We do know we don't want you working out for 6 weeks. Because the goal if more fat volume survival most patients don't want to take a risk. They will avoid any and all activities/positions that may hurt the fat.

While bending over stretches the skin and muscles of the buttocks, it should not permanently effect the fat transfer. Long term pressure (sitting on the buttocks) negatively affects the transferred fat. Blood supply.

Ideal fat survival after tissue grafting includes minimizing movement and pressure.

This is true for all tissue grafting and follows basic grafting principles.

The degree of pressure and movement and how much impact this has is up for debate.

It’s not a yes or no black or white answer.
