Question

I am 3 weeks postop from SMAS mini lift (no neck lift). Sutured: inside of tragus/vertically on scalp above ears/along hairline behind ears. The skin under my chin, right above my larynx is VERY tight LOOKING. I look like I’m wearing a party hat with an elastic string! My face is not tight. I know it will loosen a bit with time, but I feel as if I need a good 1/2” of skin to resolve this. I’m very embarrassed as I look fake. I cannot find any info on this issue, scared.

Thank you for your question and picture.  This will be highlighted at this stage because you still have bruising and swelling present therefore the skin is super tight.  Please do wait until the 6 week post surgery mark and then return to your surgeon to have a follow up appointment to review.  You should then have a follow up about 6 months after your surgery when everything should have completely settled.  At this stage in your healing I wouldn't worry.  All The Best

You are very early in your healing and still have swelling, it may take several more weeks, even months for all swelling to resolve. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Good luck.

Hard to give a full answer without your before photos, but everything looks normal for 3 weeks after surgery. Swelling and tightness can often make a line that looks too sharp initially. Follow up with your surgeon, but I am confident that with time and massage, the sharp line will resolve and you will be happy with your result.

As this occurs and swelling continues to resolve you concerns should continue to improve. Continue to follow up with your surgeon and follow their recommendations as they help you along in your healing journey.
