Help! Terrible hematoma on inner lip after Juvederm. What should I do? (Photos)

Sorry to see your adversed event after Juvederm lip injection.  In addition to icing for the first 48 hours, it will help to apply warm compresses after the first 48 hours.  The warmth helps the bruising go away more quickly.  Good luck and be well.

It can take 1-2 weeks for bruising to resolve after lip fillers. Lasers, icing and cold compresses can help give improvement. Hope this helps. 

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  I am sorry to hear of your difficulties after filler placement but rest assured these symptoms will all get better over the next 10 days.  It often takes up to 2 weeks for fillers to soften and the tissues to appear more natural.  In the meantime try reducing the swelling by using cold compresses to your lips and elevating your head at night with a couple of extra pillows behind your back.  You may want to also consider using Arnica Montana and bromelain as supplements to help clear the bruising.  Hang in there!

The best thing to do at the time it happens is to ice the area, on and off for 2-3 hours. Taking Arnica forte for 3 days before and after treatment can also help the bruise/hematoma to resolve faster. Avoid ibuprofen, Advil etc., as these may worsen the bruise in the first 24 hours. The lumps will hopefully settle and resolve if they are just from injection point inflammation, so give it at least a week to see how it settles. If you don’t see improvement in up to 2 weeks after I would visit your doctor. I also recommend seeing an expert injector for all dermal fillers.

Thank you for your question.  It is common to have some swelling and bruising after lip augmentation which can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. You can apply cold compresses to the treated area to help reduce swelling and bruising. If you have any other concerns please follow up with your injector. Best of Luck!

I'm sorry to hear of the issues from your Juvederm treatment.  Bruising and swelling can persist up to two weeks.  I recommend intermittently icing the area for the next day or two.  Some patients also find the use of the supplement Arnica to be helpful.  The bump that bothers you should soften over the next two weeks.  If not return to your injector for an evaluation.

Hello cuhboom,I would give it 2-3weeks it should resolve. Ice and time are your best friends. There are lots of blood vessels in the lips and unfortunately it bled this time. Not a big deal. Will improve. Have patience. These are the risks of doing filler injections sometimes even in the best of hands. Have your injector stay on top of this. Cheers 

yes, I agree that is a hematoma and yes it will go away. There is always a risk of getting a bad bruise and the lips are not very forgiving. However they should resolve very quickly. I would use ice packs for the first few days. You may also want to take Arnica or bromelin. Best of luck! Dr. Boschert
