Lipo 360 or Tummy Tuck to achieve a flat stomach? (Photo)

Question

I am 4’11” and weigh 174. I would love to get 360 liposuction and a BBL to achieve a flat stomach but afraid that I’ll have lots of loose skin. Would liposuction be sufficient or should I get a tummy tuck?

At 4'11 and 174 lbs, your BMI is 35 which puts you at high risk for complications. I recommend you begin a low fat diet, core exercises such as sit-ups, planks, pilates and start wearing an abdominal binder. Liposuction can be done and can safely remove 10 lbs during on session. Once you get your BMI down to 32 or lower, you can consider a tummy tuck. If you are not planning future pregnancies, the technique I recommend is abdominoplasty with mesh reinforcement. The mesh creates a more hourglass figure by compressing the abdominal wall resulting in early satiety and helps maintain a reduced weight.

Thank you for your question regarding if lipo360 will suffice or if you will need a tummy tuck. By examining your photos, I see you have excess skin and excess fat. You're right; if you do liposuction, you will be left with excess skin. If you do a tummy tuck, you may still not be satisfied with your results. I recommend you lose as much weight as you can first, then come back for a tummy tuck with liposuction of the flanks. During the tummy tuck, muscle plication will be performed, bringing in your abdomen between 3-6 inches. If you want further removal of fat, liposuction can be done 4-6 months after your tummy tuck. Your BBL can be done at the same time.

Liposuction of fat is not a replacement for a skin removal procedure like a TT. A TT will address loose skin and patients should understand this principle fully. Lipo 360 means lipo of the abdomen, sides, and lower back.

based on your photos, you look like a good candidate for a TT. Full tummy tuck should tighten your abdominal muscles and remove the excess skin. Flanks liposuction would give you a better shape. I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon because only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

For best results you will first need to lose weight to reduce visceral or internal fat.  This will give your surgeon the opportunity to optimize your tummy tuck results.  Liposuction can be added to enhance your curves.  However, liposuction alone will not give you a flat tummy.

There is no one right answer for every patient but certain findings on examination during a consultation, such as patient skin quality and body habitus characteristics, will help determine which procedure is appropriate. Good candidates for liposuction have minimal excess skin, and good elasticity so that the skin can contract and tighten after liposuction. Other items on your checklist to optimize liposuction results are obtaining your goal weight, and building lean muscle mass several months prior to your surgery day.Abdominoplasty includes repair of a weakened abdominal wall (diastasis recti AKA pooch) and creation of a new belly button, as well as excision of loose skin. This is often the procedure of choice for patients that have had significant weight loss or have been pregnant in the past and now have stretch marks, excess skin, and a weakened abdominal wall. For these patients, liposuction alone can make the skin of the abdomen, flanks and hips appear loose.Again, ever patient is different and results vary but studies do exist that have compared patient satisfaction between liposuction with tummy tuck versus circumferential liposuction (lipo 360) by itself. Liposuction patients often think that the liposuction was “not enough.”
