Suture abscess, spitting stitches, infection after tummy tuck. Can this be fixed so I can go on with my life? (Photo)

Question

Is there a surgical quick fix for suture abcess that has left open wound, spitting stitches and infection 5 weeks out from full tummy tuck? I am packing twice a day with silver, and have another spot that looks like another stitch coming out. There was infection and I have 1 day left on keflex. Can this be fixed so I can go on with my life?

Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. After seeing the photos and analyzed the information that you provide to us, i can tell you that most of the time this type of reactions goes after foreign bodies (stitches). I recommend you to make daily cures and to put some sterile gauzes. In the future maybe you'll need a surgical scar correction to achieve a delicate scar. Unfortunately there isn't a surgical intervention for what you're experiencing. However, once it's healed by packing from the bottom up, a scar revision to refine the scar tissue can be performed. Removing the stitch as soon as it becomes irritated will help avoid any infection. Thank you for the question and the pictures. I am sorry that your are experiencing such post operative difficulties. While this is not the norm, an area of wound disruption is not altogether unheard of. With local wound care the issue will usually go on to heal, without much impact on the appearance of your scar or your result. You are being managed correctly as there are no surgical "quick fixes". I recommend to continue in close follow up with your plastic surgeon as they are in the best position to evaluate and treat you during your post operative recovery. This will allow you and your surgeon the chance to discuss your concerns and help allay any anxieties you may be experiencing.I hope this helps. Best wishes.

reaction to stitches is common with TT.your surgeon will keep checking your wounds, and when they are ready with healthy tissue, he can close them under local anesthesia. these stitches start to dissolve at 4 to 8 weeks, so you may be in for more irritated areas. patience is a virtue, it will be fine. but a hassle now for you.
