Is it possible to pop a Tummy tuck muscle repair stitch from sneezing 2 and a half months post op?

Question

I sneezed (braced my abdomen) and sneezed but i heard a pop that i never heard before. I never felt any pain. Did i tear or stretch a stitch from my muscle repair? Please help

Thank you for your question.  Normally by 6-8 weeks any muscle repair has largely healed and is very durable.  That said, many sutures are used in the repair, and it is possible that one broke during a sneeze.  A single stitch would typically not materially change your results, but I would inform your physician of what happened. They can make sure that nothing has changed and provide you with reassurance.

Thank you for the question.Generally, it would take significant pressure/strain to break a stitch used for abdominal wall muscle plication during tummy tuck surgery.  If this were the case for you you might experience pain,  a “popping” sound/sensation,  swelling etc.Most surgeons use numerous sutures  and  possibly 2 layers to reapproximate the rectus muscles.  If this was the case for you,  then breaking a single stitch will likely be inconsequential.I would suggest that you follow up with your plastic surgeon,  who after direct examination,  will be in a better position to address your concerns (and hopefully provide reassurance).I hope this helps.

Thank you for the question. It is not possible to make the diagnosis without an in-person examination. While it is possible to disrupt a suture after a sneeze, that would be very unusual this late in your post operative recovery, although not impossible. It would be helpful to know if you have noticed any new lump(s) or swelling. You may also want to consider posting pictures to aid in the formulation of an opinion.I recommend to continue in close follow up with your plastic surgeon as they are in the best position to evaluate and treat you during your recovery. This will allow you and the surgeon a chance to discuss your concerns and help allay any anxieties you may be experiencing.I hope this helps. Good luck.
