Hello. I have had a bad problem with bruxism for a long time now. I ignored the problem for a long time and because of this its at the point I suffer from increasing tooth pain,am getting face pain & headaches from the habit. Im also worried I will ruin my teeth. A mouth guard only helps at night & I unconsciously grind my teeth all day long. I heard botox can prevent grinding & am wondering how many units of botox I would need and a proce estimate. I dont want a lot, just enough to kick this
Answer: Botox for bruxism Thank you for your question! While a consultation is required, I would say at least 60-80 units. In our practice that would be around $500. Again, a consultation would be best to determine the appropriate amount of product for you.

Answer: Botox to Treat Teeth & Jaw Grinding Thank you for your detailed question and corresponding photos. Botox can help people with bruxism but because it is a larger muscle compared to the other facial muscles, it does take a larger dose. Botox relaxes the masseter muscle and causes it to slim down, de-bulking the lower half of your face as well as helping you with teeth grinding. It takes at least 25 units per side of the face and lasts 4-6 months. Some people with stronger masseter muscles require higher doses which is why I recommend seeing a board-certified plastic surgeon or expert injector in-person so they can examine your muscles in action and determine the correct dose for you. At our practice, we also provide consults via FaceTime or Skype for patients who live outside of NY. For more information, please visit our webpage.

Answer: Botox can thin out bulging chewing muscles helping those who grind teeth get a more tapered face All patients are examined by me in consultation prior to determining how many units of Botox they may need. The lowest I have injected for treatment of the masseter chewing muscles for grinding and clenching teeth (bruxism) is 12 units per side but the majority of patients will need 20 or more units.

Answer: Botox in Masseters When treating the masseter muscles for cosmetic reasons (to shrink visibly enlarged muscles) you may need up to 50 units, but since you are primarily interested in functional improvement, I would start with about 15 units (7.5 on each side) this may be enough to stop the grinding. If you need more, you can always add more after 2 weeks. the cost at our practice for 15 units is $299

Answer: Botox for Bruxism Botox can be an effective treatment for bruxism. Teeth grinding and clenching can have very damaging effects on dentation, result in TMJ, and lead to headaches. Typically treatment requires 20-25 units of Botox per side. The results tend to last 4-6 months. Price varies per practice and geographic location but can range from $500-$800 per treatment. Please consult a physician experienced in Botox treatment for this condition.
