Crater deformity after gynecomastia surgery. Can the deformity be rectified through steroid injection?

Sorry to hear you are having issues concerning your surgical results. The unfortunate crater deformity occurs after the removal of glandular tissue in the central area combined with inadequate contouring of the surrounding tissue. The ability to contour the chest to create a smooth appearance is just as important as the adequate removal of the glandular tissue. Experienced plastic surgeons know that what is important isn't so much of how much tissue was removed, but rather, the tissue which is left behind which leads to a smooth, contoured chest. The crater can be corrected with fat grafting. However, it looks like no result was obtained which makes me wonder if any of the fat survived. I rarely inject steroid to correct the crater deformity as steroids are known to cause tissue atrophy which may exacerbate your situation. My advice is to seek out an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon who is affiliated with the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

I can't help you with this inquiry unless you provide photos. If you have tissue fullness that can be treated this will help with the crater issue. An internal flap can be used to fill this in. Maybe a scar release and some combination of the procedures. Need a photo. I can tell you that this can be taken care of.

Most contour deformities following gynecomastia surgery are the result of over-resection (removal of excess tissue).  I do not think steroids will correct the problem unless it is associated with inflammation.    The best treatment is SAFE liposuction (the FE stands for fat equalization).  This is a viable option only if there is sufficient fat to equalize adjacent to the deformity.  Otherwise, fat grafting is probably the best option.
