I'm sorry for asking the same question for the second time. But my body is changing and I still don't have any proper diagnosis. The problem is I feel constant water retention in my whole body, especially in my legs (hips). I have clothing marks on my skin and I feel pain as well. I eat healthy and exercise, but the situation is the same. The only advice I can get from doctors is to eat more protein. So, does it look like stage 1 of lipedema?

Answer: Follow-Up: How to treat mild lipedema on skinny person? Am I good candidate for liposuction? (photo) Thank you for your photos and question. There’s no doubt that lipedema is a troubling and ill-understood condition. The German surgeons who championed treatment using lymph sparing liposuction techniques have given us hope. Treatment is usually helpful for an indefinite period and more than one area can be involved. Contact a plastic surgeon who specializes in this technique. Hope this helps.

Answer: Diagnosing lipedema It's hard to tell from your pictures but from the pictures you have shown alone I would say you do not have lipedema. Since early lipedema looks identical to someone with excessive fan on their lower extremities you cannot make the diagnosis early unless you can document changes. Lipedema typically worsens with age. It's hard to tell from the pictures you have posted. But based off of those pictures alone it does not appear you have lipedema. Since the early stages of lipedema look very similar to someone who has a genetic predisposition for excess fat in the lower extremities the only way to confirm the diagnosis is with change in leg size over time. The treatment is liposuction which you could choose to have it regardless of the diagnosis. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
