Face lift incision looks very bumpy and skin seems "bunched up" together? (Photos)

Thanks so much for reaching out. It is absolutely normal for the skin to be bunched up this early after facelift procedure. This will usually smooth out and settle down within the first few months after surgery.  The scars will also change in color from red to pale.I hope this helps :-)

The bunching up in the temple area was done in order not to extend your incision too high up the temple. Furthermore, during the early postoperative period, the skin and soft tissue is swollen including the temple area that you are referring to. Most of this will settle within 6-8 weeks, and a dramatic difference should be noticed within a few months time. Follow up with your plastic surgeon during  the healing phase and discuss any concerns you may have with your surgeon.

Thank you for your question and photos. Incisions often appear raised or bunched following surgery due to swelling. In the early postoperative period it is best to be patient and to have close follow up with your surgeon so he/she can walk you through the healing process. Thanks for your question and the photos. One day out you are seeing swelling and pulling from the deep sutures which will go away over time. Worse case, scars could be adjusted in the future, but thankfully your body is smart and the skin generally settles down. It seems that at this early time you are getting good advice from your PS.Best wishes.

It is still too soon. You have some swelling, which will slowly resolve over the next several weeks. I do recommend following up with your surgeon about your concerns. I hope this helps. 

You are fresh post-op and it is way way too early to critic your incisions.  They will go through a process of healing and maturation that can take 6 months to a year.

Having some bunching and lumps along your incision is definitely within the realm of normal right after surgery.  In my experience these will settle over the next few weeks and even faster with massage.  You should not start massage of your scar until your plastic surgeon directs you to do so though.   It is very rare to see what you are describing not go away at some point when it is in front of the ear/temple like that.  And, in the worst case scenario a tiny lump of skin can easily be smoothed out in the office - so try not to worry.

It is normal to have irregularities around the sideburn area after a facelift.  This is an area that is gathered to allow skin removal during the procedure.  These generally will improve dramatically over the first few weeks after the procedure.  Discuss with your surgeon about further treatments (such as massage) to decrease the irregularities when he or she think it is appropriate.  Good luck.   Donald R Nunn, M.D.  Atlanta plastic surgeon

It is far too soon after your surgery to determine what your final results will look like. I do see  the folds you are concerned with though. I would keep an eye on them as you heal, and keep taking photos to send to your surgeon. If it is something that needs a 'fix' it would be a minor procedure.
