I'm 72 and got a small amount of Voluma in my upper lip by a highly respected plastic surgeon two weeks ago. He has done excellent work on my fact this past year. After the filler my smile is a bit distorted. He said this will improve after the Voluma has had time to soften, but may take a few months. Have you ever heard of this?
Answer: Distorted smile after lip fillers The distortion you’re seeking may be due to swelling. Swelling is common after fillers and typically goes away after a week or two. If you’re concerned, please follow up with your plastic surgeon.

Answer: Distorted Smile after Lip Augmentation with Injectable Fillers (Juvederm Voluma) -- Reverse with Hyaluronidase, See an Expert Hi Mandy, without photographs, it's difficult to know what you mean by "distorted." Swelling after lip augmentation with fillers can be asymmetrical, but it should resolve 1 to 2 weeks after lip injections. This may be an issue of technique. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can always have the Voluma reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. I suggest getting a formal evaluation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Voluma in lips Thank you for your question. I don't recommend using voluma in the lips as it is a thicker type of filler which is meant for cheeks, chin, and jawline. The lips require a softer filler such as juvederm, restylane, vobella, or vollure. I suggest following up with your plastic surgeon to see if the voluma could be dissolved, if not all at least some, to restore your normal smile. Hope that helps, -Melody PAC

Answer: Lip filler Voluma distorted Hello Mandy, I am so sorry to hear you are dealing with this. Yes a little asymmetry can happen after lip injections but usually settles down after the swelling calms down within a couple weeks. Not months That being said, Voluma is quite a robust filler for lips as it is very dense. If you have not done so already I would recommend going back to your plastic surgeon so he can see the results in person. If needed Voluma can be dissolved although it will take a higher dose and may take a few treatments. Take care, Nyeree Hazelton, RN BSN. Cosmetic Nurse Injector.

Answer: Voluma in lips Thanks for your question. I am surprised your injector chose Voluma for the lip. It is one of the more robust or "firm" hyaluronic acid fillers and is not as forgiving as the other Juvederm and Restylane products in the lips. Voluma usually is placed deep into the cheeks and sometimes into the marionette lines for deep support. You might need to have it dissolved with hyaluronidase if you feel the lips look very irregular or if your friends all think you had something "done" and it is causing you to regret the procedure. Voluma lasts a very, very long time and can be quite noticeable if placed too superficially. Best of luck!
