The addition of ultrasound treatment may have certain advantages, depending on what type of rhinoplasty is being performed. In the end, the most important variable is always the patient’s candidacy and the skill and experience of the provider. The equipment is rarely the determining factor of who gets quality outcomes. Rhinoplasty surgery is fairly complex and getting consistent quality outcomes is something that has to be mastered over decades of practice. I suggest patients have multiple in person consultations with plastic surgeons in their community who seem to have a proven track record of doing a lot of rhinoplasty surgery. Look for plastic surgeon to focus exclusively on rhinoplasty surgery or those who have rhinoplasty as one of the major aspects of their practice. Look for plastic surgeons, who have at least wanted two decades of rhinoplasty experience. I suggest patience schedule multiple in person consultations to get a quality assessment and help find the right provider. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures of previous patients who had similar facial characteristics to your own. And experienced plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before, and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images, representing only the best results of a providers career may be insufficient to get a clear understanding of what results look like in the hands of each provider, what your results will look like or how many of these procedures they have actually done. Bring pictures of your face similar to how plastic surgeons take before and after pictures to use as a reference when reviewing before and after pictures During consultations. We generally have a good memory of what our face looks like. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The more consultations you scheduled the more likely you are to find the best provider for your needs. In my opinion, the biggest mistake patients make is having only one consultation which more or less eliminates the ability to choose the better provider. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
