Would a chin implant give me more facial symmetry and balance? (Photo)

Question

Hi, i would like to have recommendations for procedures to balance out my frontal and side profiles. I’ve never been too good at seeing my flaws, but as of recent i feel as tho my left eye (side with birthmark above my eye) is rather droopy and unbalances my face. Another irk that bothers me is that I am rather active and have a low bodyfat%. However, the bottom half of my face feels very undefined and chubby to me. Would a chin implant help give my side profile balance and define my face more?

Hello and thank you for your question. A formal evaluation would be needed to determine the best treatment.

For a more defined jawline to strengthen your profile (and help prevent the dreaded jawline "jowl" sagging), we use injectable fillers like Revanesse Versa - a filler known to limit swelling and give subtle, soft enhancements - or Radiesse. We use this and/or other injectable fillers like Voluma, BellaFill, and Sculptra- these are injected into the areas of concern to improve the overall appearance of the lower face, give better definition to the jawline, and provide overall balance and harmony to the jaw, and the rest of the face. Using a cannula to limit pain and swelling, we inject on the bone in strategic points to get more lift and shaping, resulting in a more contoured lower face and defined, structured jawline (and rest of the face).

I suggest getting a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert, or an aesthetic facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Donald Groves; we are both located right here in Los Angeles.

Hi blackmusclecar. It looks to me like you possibly have upper eyelid ptosis on that side, giving you that "sleepy" appearance look. This is something that can be corrected with ptosis/eyelid surgery. For the bottom half of your face, it does seem like from profile view that you could handle a chin implant (I would guess at least medium-large), which will help add some definition, but the other fullness I see of your lower face also seems like it could be stemming from the buccal fat region and/or lack of midface volume. Addressing these may also help, depending on your exam in person.

The chin implant will improve your lateral view as well as a rhinoplasty will help with the contour deformity of the dorsum of the nose. I recommend a rhinoplasty and chin implant be done at the same time.

Yes, indeed, a chin implant would give you better facial balance, and proportions, from mostly the side profile, but some frontal improvement as well. Chin implants can be placed under local anesthesia through a small incision underneath the chin which takes about 30 minutes.

Chin augmentation seems like a reasonable plan. If you want to strengthen your jawline, create a stronger and more masculine appearance..
Chin augmentation can be done, using fillers, implants, or a sliding genioplasty.
All three treatment options have advantages and disadvantages. Fillers may be a good option to see if you like the overall look since it’s temporary. The result of fillers and using a silicone implant will be slightly different, but you should get a general idea. In many ways, fillers are ideal except their lack of permanence.
